Hello, teacher. I've been having some concerns lately. I feel so pathetic and frustrated with myself, so I applied for counseling.
Actually, I'm usually the type of person who has trouble understanding what others say. Especially when there are a lot of people talking together or someone is giving me instructions, my mind goes blank and I can't quite grasp what they're saying.
The most difficult thing was a recent experience at work. My boss gave me instructions, and I didn't understand them at first, so I asked, "What?" Then, my boss suddenly raised his voice and got angry, saying, "Don't you understand what I'm saying?"
At that moment, my whole body felt stiff. My mind went blank, my heart pounded, my hands and feet grew cold, and I felt like I couldn't control myself. I was so embarrassed and sad that tears welled up in my eyes. In the end, unable to say anything, I went to the bathroom and cried for a long time.
Come to think of it, this wasn't the first time something like this had happened. When I was young, I'd always freeze when my mom nagged me or when I made a mistake during a presentation at school. Every time, I'd feel so frustrated, thinking, "Why am I so stupid?" or "Why can't I understand?"
"Every time I encounter this situation, I feel this suffocating feeling and this stiffness in my body. It's really painful. I don't know how to solve it."
Listening to your shared concerns, I can fully understand how heartbreaking and frustrating that situation must have been. The moment your head went blank and your body froze at your boss's irritated words, the fear and helplessness, and the self-blame that came with realizing that the situation was connected to a childhood experience—it must have been truly overwhelming to handle alone.
But that's okay. EFT is a highly effective tool for releasing past emotional wounds and the resulting physical reactions etched into our bodies and minds. EFT is a treatment that focuses on specific emotionally triggering events and gently taps key acupressure points on the body to restore balance to the energy system.
The tense reaction you feel in situations with your boss isn't simply a current issue. It could be the result of past negative experiences linked to the thought, "I'm not understanding what you're saying." EFT will help you unravel these emotional layers one by one, easing tension in your body and mind, allowing you to face similar situations more comfortably in the future.
This process is like unraveling a tangled web of emotions. Starting with an incident like your boss's irritation, you can apply EFT to heal the root of your emotions, even reaching the hidden childhood memories beneath.
We encourage you to refer to the EFT manual provided below and apply EFT directly to situations where your body is tense.
EFT Personalized Manual: Managing Stiff Emotions
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) involves focusing on the thoughts or memories that trigger your emotions and gently tapping key acupressure points on the body with your fingers. This helps restore balance to the body's energy system and release negative emotions.
1.
Preparation stage
Most Pressing Issue (MPI): Identify the emotion or problem that is most bothering you right now and that you want to resolve (e.g., "feeling upset," "stiffness in your body").
Severity Scale (SUDS): This measures the severity of a problem on a scale from 0 (not at all) to 10 (worst). This serves as a criterion for objectively assessing change.
2.
EFT Basic Sequence
EFT consists of three core elements:
Setup Statement: A sentence that combines the problem (negative emotion) with self-acceptance (fully accepting yourself).
Example: "Although I feel frustrated and tense because I seem to misunderstand, I accept myself deeply and completely."
Repeat this sentence 3 times while lightly tapping the Karate Chop Point with the fingers of your other hand.
Tapping Sequence: A process of lightly tapping eight major acupressure points on the body.
Tap each point 5 to 7 times in the following order: inside the eyebrow (EB), side of the eye (SE), under the eye (UE), under the nose (UN), chin (CH), collarbone (CB), armpit (UA), and crown of the head (ToH).
Reminder Phrase: Repeat a short phrase that gets to the heart of the problem (e.g., "feeling upset," "stiffness in body") during the tapping sequence.
3.
Final stage
Reassess: After completing the tapping sequence, take a deep breath and reassess the intensity of the problem.
Additional iterations: If the intensity is still high, modify the setting phrase to something like "Despite this remaining frustration..." and repeat until it gets closer to 0.
Use positive phrases: When the intensity of your emotions drops below 2, you can use positive phrases (Choices Technique) to reset positive emotions or behaviors.
Example: " Even though these feelings remain, I choose to trust myself and communicate clearly."
This manual covers the fundamentals of EFT and, with consistent practice, will help you reduce inner resistance and experience positive changes in your life.
