Hello, EFT Coach. I'm a working professional in my mid-30s.
I've dedicated myself to this company for the past seven years. I'm proud of my contributions to its growth, working overtime and even weekends, without hesitation. However, over the past seven years, all I've received in return has been a stagnant salary and the heavy pressure from my boss, who asks, "Who else would do this job?"
I realize I can no longer expect fair compensation for my passion and hard work at this company, but I lack the courage to actually announce my resignation. Every time I imagine myself resigning and telling my boss, my heart races and my hands and feet tremble. I dread the cold stare and criticism from my boss, who might ask, "How dare you?" I also worry about the uncomfortable stares my colleagues will face after I leave.
In particular, I'm afraid that after I give my resignation notice, I'll be branded a "useless person" or suffer from guilt for causing harm to the company. Perhaps the loyalty I've shown to the company over the years has become a shackle, binding me. I want to break free from these emotional shackles.
I want to shake off these fears and anxieties and gain the courage to speak up. Coach, please help me overcome these emotions and reclaim my life.
I understand you're struggling with the frustration of unpaid work and the fear of quitting. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) can be a great help in releasing these negative emotions and regaining your confidence. Based on the information you provided, I'll conduct an EFT session tailored to your current situation.
1.
Identifying the problem and identifying feelings
First, let's clarify what you're feeling right now. Close your eyes and focus on the following questions:
When you think about not wanting to work, what emotion do you feel most strongly about? (e.g., fear, anxiety, helplessness, anger, etc.)
What are the feelings that make you feel unsure of saying, "I don't want to do unpaid work anymore"?
Where in your body do you feel these feelings most strongly? (e.g., tightness in your chest, tension in your shoulders, stiffness in your neck, etc.)
If you were to rate the intensity of these feelings on a scale of 0 to 10, how would you rate them? (0 being not at all, 10 being the strongest)
(Take a moment to feel the emotion, then mentally rate it.)
2.
EFT Preparation Step: Creating a "Readiness Phrase"
Now, let's create the first step of EFT: the Setup Statement. This statement involves acknowledging the problem while fully accepting yourself. Try repeating this statement in your mind.
"Although I don't have the confidence to say I'd quit an uncompensated job, I deeply and completely accept myself as I am."
Repeat this phrase three times, gently tapping the point of the palm (the thick part on the side of the palm, below the little finger) with the fingers of your other hand.
3.
EFT Tapping Steps
Now that you've completed the warm-up phrase, let's begin the tapping in earnest. While gently tapping the following eight EFT pressure points, say a **reminder phrase** out loud or repeat it in your head to remind you of your current feelings.
The phrases above could be “this feeling that I can’t express”, “this anxiety”, “this fear”, etc.
Eyebrow bangs: Tap the beginning of the eyebrow. (Repeat the phrase above)
Outer eye: Tap the outer bone of the eye. (Repeat the phrase above.)
Under the eyes: Tap the area just below the pupil, near the eye socket bone. (Repeat the phrase above.)
Under the nose: Tap between the nose and upper lip. (Repeat the phrase above.)
Chin: Tap the hollow area between your lower lip and the tip of your chin. (Repeat the phrase above.)
Clavicle: Tap below where your collarbone meets your ribs. (Repeat the phrase above.)
Armpit: Tap under the armpit, or for women, where the bra straps go. (Repeat the phrase above.)
Jeongsuri: Tap the top of your head. (Repeat the phrase above.)
This process is called a round.
4.
Emotional Reevaluation and Next Steps
After one session, take a deep breath. Then, close your eyes again and reassess the intensity of the emotions you initially felt.
How many points did the intensity of your emotions change?
If your score drops, try modifying the phrases above during the next session, such as "lingering anxiety" or "this lingering fear." Repeat until your score drops below 3.
If your score hasn't changed or has actually increased, you may need to explore the Aspects of your fears more deeply.
For example, when you think of 'declaring resignation', what situation do you fear most?
I'm afraid to be honest with my boss.
I'm afraid of criticism or the gaze of people at work.
I'm afraid of the feeling of hopelessness and anxiety after quitting my job.
Repeat EFT with each of these individual aspects as a new problem.
5.
EFT for Positive Change
Once your fear score has been sufficiently reduced, you can use EFT's **Choices Statement** to cultivate positive emotions.
"Although I still have some fear about announcing my resignation, I now want to speak out with courage."
"Although I still have some anxiety about announcing my resignation, I choose to look forward to and rejoice in my new beginning."
As you repeat these phrases and practice EFT tapping, you will feel your fears disappear and be replaced by confidence and anticipation.
I hope that through this EFT process, you will overcome your fear of leaving your job and gain the courage and confidence to make a new beginning.
