In my relationships with others, my endless clinging and obsession began to slowly reveal itself. I'd always taken it for granted, a natural part of my life. But in meditation, the more I tried to grasp it as a single entity, the more I realized it was like a breeze blowing through the air. Obsession wasn't a heavy boulder, but a breeze that passed by, a sensation every moment, a formless flow revealed in each breath I inhaled and exhaled. It was like waves that rose and fell, incessantly, regardless of my will. In this way, I was able to step back and observe the shadows cast by obsession.
At that moment, I felt a gentle tingling in my left arm. Previously, I would have resisted the discomfort and tried to push it away. But this time, it was different. Instead of suppressing the sensation, I accepted it quietly. Then, I mentally called light to that spot. As I imagined a soft, warm light seeping into my arm, the area gradually became comfortable, and the discomfort dissipated like a wave. All that remained was stillness. In that stillness, I was able to fully return to the present moment and reconnect with my body.
Breathing, the subtle movements of my fingers, the blinking of my eyes—all these automated bodily movements came to me with renewed clarity. The body, constantly alive and moving without my intervention, was a mystery in itself. When this life-giving movement, once overlooked, was illuminated by the light of consciousness, it felt both unfamiliar and precious, as if I were encountering it for the first time.
Through that experience, I learned that obsession ultimately passes away like air, and that discomfort, when embraced with light, quietly disappears. And in the small signals and currents my body displays, my consciousness becomes clearer and freer. The mind, entangled in relationships, momentarily retreats, and only the living present moment remains before me. In this place, I can exist more lightly, more transparently, and a little more freely.
